Policy Lens Series: Indigenous Considerations and Duty to Consult

Audience:    All employees

In this course, participants will learn about the government’s duty to consult with the Mi’kmaq dwelling on PEI. They will also become familiar with the circumstances under which this duty applies, as well as learn about how the Indigenous Relations Secretariat can provide support, advice and training.

Learning Outcomes:
•    Understands the core functions of the Indigenous Relations Secretariat
•    Understands the historical and legal context that is fundamental to the duty to consult
•    Gains awareness of the provincial duty to consult policy and the current process of fulfilment
•    Understands other equity initiatives pertaining to Indigenous peoples on PEI
