The Departmental Innovation Award is given to the department that best demonstrates an innovative approach to solving a need that benefits government or the public.
This year’s award goes to the Provincial Mobile X-Ray Service Team for delivering a transformative, patient-centered approach to service for PEI’s residents of long-term care homes.
The service was developed through a cross departmental partnership between the Department of Health and Wellness, Health PEI, and IT Shared Services. The service is delivered by skilled medical radiation technologists using dedicated mobile unit. It has helped reduce painful transfers, wait times, and unnecessary hardship for Island seniors. Prior to this innovation, seniors with complex health needs were transported to hospital, a process that often-caused significant discomfort for the patient.
