2023 Public Service Week - Schedule of Events

Guest Speaker: Erin Carver
Erin Carver is the Occupational Health and Safety Youth Education Consultant with the Workers Compensation Board.
It is largely employers and supervisors who determine the general culture, as well as the health and safety culture, of a workplace. For young workers, learning how to do the job well and reporting any workplace hazards, is a great first step in preventing workplace injury. Chances are young workers probably haven’t thought about the different ways they can be injured at work. The truth is what you don’t know CAN hurt you! Participants will learn about the significant influence supervisors can have on worker safety, and how employers and supervisors might capitalize on this. Participants will hear what PEI workers say about their hesitation to raise their workplace safety concerns, and what they can do to encourage workers to speak up.
