2:45-3:30pm - Virtual session being offered by the Buddhist nuns Click here to join Wednesday's session Contact Sarah Muthee at swmuthee@gov.pe.ca if you have trouble connecting.

The Buddhist nuns at Great Wisdom Buddhist Institute have called PEI home since 2012. There are currently about 500 nuns at their home in eastern P.E.I.

With its serene and quiet environment, as well as kind and friendly neighbours, PEI has been the perfect place for the Buddhist nuns to practice their faith. The Buddhist nuns devote their time living a mindful way of life focusing on gratitude, positive thinking, and self-discipline, as well as studying the teachings of compassion and wisdom, translating and preserving ancient Buddhist texts, as well as sharing their knowledge with mindfulness workshops for the public.

Since 2017, the Buddhist nuns have led mindfulness sessions for over 85 different organizations. They've had over 4,000 participants, mostly in PEI. With the onset of the pandemic, they've been looking for ways to support mental health in the local community by providing mindfulness workshops, as well for areas that have been hit really hard with COVID in the States and Ontario.

Art of Mindfulness
Revitalize your mind and body through guided meditations.
Restore meaning in life by seeing things in different perspectives.
Refocus your mind for purpose and positivity.

When life is constantly on fast-forward, it's easy to lose focus on the things that matter.
Practicing mindfulness helps us refocus our minds, so we are more aware of each moment. It also allows us to be more in control of our thoughts so we can be more in control of our emotions.

Decades of research have shown that mindfulness can improve our mental and physical health, as well as our cognitive abilities and interpersonal relationships. When compared to controls who receive no mindfulness training, those with mindfulness training report to have less stress, more positive emotions, and higher quality of life. Neuroscientists have also found that individuals who practice mindfulness also have higher grey-matter density in areas of the brain associated with learning, memory, decision-making, attention, etc.
