Public Service Leadership Competencies Framework

What are the Government of PEI Leadership Competencies?

The Leadership Competencies define the behaviours expected of PEI public servants. There are four leadership competencies:

  1. Influence and self-awareness
  2. Builds relationships
  3. Leads others
  4. Focus on results

Each competency has 3 elements. You can review the behaviours of each element to help determine if you at a level 1 (core), 2 (advanced), or 3 (excellent).

Who should use the competencies?

Everyone! Everyone is a leader in the public service, regardless of position or role. Whether you're making decisions, sharing ideas, or supporting your colleagues, your actions have a great impact on those around you. By embracing this mindset, we create a culture of accountability, collaboration, and shared success. Incorporating Indigenous teachings, particularly humility, reminds us to recognize and value the contributions of others, fostering a community where every voice is heard and respected.

First step - self evaluation

The first step in using the leadership competencies framework is completing the self-evaluation. Use the Moodle Self Assessment Tool (or the fillable PDF) to evaluate your current leadership skills and identify areas for improvement.
