Length: 2.5 hours
This practical session will provide a refresher on some of the most common and challenging workplace issues faced by supervisors and managers, including human rights accommodations and sick leave, harassment complaints, and performance management. Participants will learn how to respond appropriately to workplace concerns and avoid common pitfalls. The session will focus on practical strategies that managers and supervisors can apply in their day-to-day roles, while increasing their understanding of legal obligations and best practices.
Topics will include:
- Understanding the employer's duty to accommodate an employee's disability;
- Managing accommodation requests and employee absences;
- Recognizing when a harassment complaint requires action or investigation;
- Addressing performance concerns effectively and fairly; and
- Determining when coaching, discipline, administrative leave, or other interventions may be appropriate.
This session is designed as a refresher for supervisors and managers who want to strengthen their confidence in handling some common workplace issues.
