The Engagement and Collaboration Award recognizes contributions that create a positive impact for government and the citizens of Prince Edward Island through meaningful public engagement and collaboration across government.
This year’s award goes to the PEI Geographic Naming and Renaming Program of the Department of Finance and Affordability for meaningful engagement and cross government collaboration in renaming a community, now known as Wild Harbour.
The renaming of this community required balancing reconciliation goals with deep community identity to ensure respectful and transparent dialogue throughout the entire process. As project lead, Ryan Pineau, Provincial Tax Commissioner, ensured collaboration across multiple departments, as well as with the Indigenous Relations Secretariat, with federal partners, and with an external advisory committee. The public engagement process was responsive to feedback with ongoing redesign and modification. The approach strengthened relationships and demonstrated a model for consistent and respectful engagement for future projects.
Congratulations to everyone involved in this project!
