Program evaluation is the systematic gathering, analysis and reporting of data about a program to assist in decision-making about ways to improve the program and how best to use resources.  In practice, this work spans a continuum, from more simple performance monitoring activities to comprehensive formal evaluation studies.  This workshop explores that continuum and helps participants determine how to “right-size” evaluation activities based on context, purpose and decision requirements.

Objectives:

  • Learn how to view evaluation as a continuum of approaches - from performance monitoring and program assessment through to formal evaluation.
  • Build confidence in developing and implementing right-sized evaluation and performance monitoring activities.
  • Learn how to use different evaluation-related activities for different decision needs and when each is appropriate.

Applications in the Workplace:

  • Introduction to basic terms and concepts of program evaluation
  • Identify major benefits and uses of program evaluation
  • Understanding the relationship between planning, management and evaluation
  • Review major models of evaluation
  • Develop an understanding of evaluation frameworks
