KAIROS Blanket Exercise

Length: 3 hours

Join Jamie Thomas, Director of Culture & Tourism at Lennox Island, for an interactive and experiential teaching that aims to foster an understanding of the shared history and nation-to-nation relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada.

The KAIROS Blanket Exercise is guided by trained facilitators, including Indigenous Elders and Knowledge Keepers, who work from a script that covers pre-contact, treaty-making, colonization, resistance and much more. Participants are actively involved as they step onto blankets that represent the land, and into the role of First Nations, Inuit and later Métis peoples.

SMUDGING NOTICE: Please note that this event will include smudging, which involves the ceremonial burning of sage. Individuals with respiratory conditions, allergies, or sensitivity to smoke are advised to take appropriate precautions and are encouraged to step away or speak with an event organizer if needed.

TRIGGER WARNING: The Blanket Exercise walks through difficult life experiences such as Indian Residential Schools, the Sixties Scoop, and other examples of colonial violence and policies that have negatively affected Indigenous peoples. Elders and Community Support persons will be there to assist you as we walk through this journey together.
