Diversity Employment Program (DEP)

Diversity Employment Program (DEP)

The Diversity Employment Program supports diverse groups of people to establish or advance a successful career with the Government of PEI. Candidates are invited to apply using the online application on princeedwardisland.ca. Once they apply, their file remains active for one year, after which they must re-apply.

As an HR manager, you will be able to log into the Talent Pool Search application to select qualified candidates. Based on a position’s requirements, you can identify a suitable candidate using the search fields such as education credentials, additional languages spoken, and their legal entitlement to work in Canada.

During this first stage of implementation, you will be able to:
1.    Access the Talent Pool Search - log in using credentials provided.
2.    Use the search fields to find qualified candidates.
3.    Request resumes and additional documents for screening from the Diversity Office.
4.    Contact the candidate to schedule an interview.
5.    Check references and request more supporting documentation based on the job requirements.
6.    If successful, make an offer through the Diversity Employment Program. An offer letter sample will be provided upon request.
7.    Submit monthly reports to the Diversity Office with the successful candidate’s name and position title.

How are diversity candidates selected for public sector positions?
Once a diversity candidate is registered in the PSC Diversity Talent Pool (DTP), they may be selected to compete for public sector positions as follows:

•    If a position cannot be filled through the internal process, as per the UPSE Civil Collective Agreement, departments may approach the Public Service Commission for placement through DEP; or
•    The Public Service Commission may refer qualified applicants to the department or agency for employment consideration, screening and referencing.

Successful diversity candidates may be appointed on a temporary or permanent basis based on government department/agency needs. After one-year continuous employment, diversity employees employed through the DEP may be eligible to compete in internal competitions. The PSC Diversity and Inclusion Consultant monitors employees’ progress and offers support.
